Running a Louisiana private practice while doing the job of three people isn't sustainable
You didn't build your practice to spend your evenings on prior auths and insurance calls. But if you're like most Louisiana practice owners, that's where a chunk of your week goes.
Louisiana runs on one of the most concentrated insurance markets in the country, a Medicaid program that just lost one of its managed care plans and picked up new federal work requirements in the same few months. Front desk and billing work here takes real, specific knowledge, not a generic playbook.
That's the gap Rockstar fills. Highly experienced healthcare Virtual Assistants who already know how Louisiana practices run, backed by a team that stays in it with you after the hire.
What Louisiana private practices need to know before hiring a Virtual Assistant
HUBS
Demand runs heaviest around New Orleans and Baton Rouge, the state's largest provider hubs, with steady interest from practices in Shreveport and Lafayette.
PAYER LANDSCAPE
Louisiana Blue is the state's dominant commercial insurer, holding about 66% of the market according to the most recent industry data, one of the highest concentrations in the country. A VA who already understands Louisiana Blue's prior authorization and claims process isn't optional here. It's the difference between a clean week and a backlog.
Healthy Louisiana, the state's Medicaid managed care program, covers roughly 1.5 million residents. It just went through a real shakeup: UnitedHealthcare's contract wasn't renewed and expired December 31, 2025, with all of its members reassigned to one of the five remaining plans, Aetna Better Health, AmeriHealth Caritas, Healthy Blue, Humana Healthy Horizons, or Louisiana Healthcare Connections, starting January 1, 2026. On top of that, Louisiana's new federal work requirements took effect around the same time, requiring adults 19 to 64 in the expansion population to show 80 hours a month of work, school, or volunteering, or earn at least $580 a month, with exemptions for caregivers of children under 14 and people deemed medically frail. Members also gained new flexibility to switch Medicaid plans up to twice a year starting March 2026. Your VA needs to track which MCO a patient landed on after the UnitedHealthcare transition, and understand the new work requirement exemptions.
COMPLIANCE
Louisiana private practices operate under federal HIPAA, without an additional state-level health privacy statute layered on top. Every Rockstar VA is vetted for HIPAA experience and signs a Business Associate Agreement before starting, regardless of state.
